2. “Growing Old is Getting Old” by Silversun Pickups
3. “The Man Who Can’t Be Moved” by The Script
4. “Somebody to Love” by Justin Bieber***
***I know, I know. I tried to resist the Biebs, but this song is just too good of a pop song. I apologize. Also, for the record, this video is super awkward. AND, I prefer the non-Usher version. But I digress..
Michael Jackson 1958-2009

For anyone like me, with a psyche that is rooted in pop culture, you will remember where you were on June 25, 2009. It was our generation’s “Day the Music Died.”
Trying to gauge, list, or prioritize Michael Jackson’s contributions to the world of entertainment is like trying to track down every person you’ve ever spoken to in your entire life – it’s an all-encompassing, impossible task. His influence can be seen not only within the iPods of people the world over, but his pioneering footprint is woven like a thread through the fabric of music, dance and far beyond. His reach was global, the depths of which could never be measured.
His death hits hard and it hits deep. I was born in 1977, and my life was consumed with music from before the age of 6, when I bought my first vinyl record. My musical landscape was shaped by the likes of Madonna and Michael Jackson. Each release, from record to tape to CD to mp3, were all building blocks, with those two artists setting much of the foundation. Now that foundation teeters on uncertainty, a colorful legacy that has abruptly faded to black and white.
For me it goes beyond “Thriller,” or even the 1980s. His brilliance spoke to me through lesser-known songs like “Leave Me Alone,” “Liberian Girl,” “Speed Demon” and “You Rock My World.” There are elements of genius imprinted on every one of his creations.
He was eccentric, strange, and misunderstood – but gifted, so truly gifted. Imagining music without Michael Jackson is unfathomable. If there was ever any doubt how powerful music is, and how much of a gift the people are who make it, there shouldn’t be going forward. Though he was relegated to no more than a punch line in his last years of life, he should now be celebrated, respected and appreciated.
There will forever be a gaping hole in the soul of music and entertainment, as well as in my heart.

But, I do. Nick Jonas and his ex, Miley Cyrus, were spotted together Saturday. Hmm…
